The Origins of a Natural Latex Mattress
The rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis, is native to the Amazon rainforest of South America and was carried over time to tropical regions around the world for its valuable sap. That milky sap is natural latex. It is the same living material that, after a few careful steps, becomes the core of every LATEXPEDIC natural mattress.
A seed of the Hevea brasiliensis is planted and grows for years before the tree is ready to give its sap.
A thin cut in the bark lets the milky latex sap flow into a cup. The tree is not cut down, and it heals and is tapped again for decades.
The sap is whipped into a froth and poured into a mold. In the 8-step Talalay process it is vacuum-expanded and flash-frozen for an even, open-cell structure.
The foam is heated to set it, then washed and dried. What remains is resilient latex foam that breathes, springs back and never sags.
Each Talalay core is made one at a time, date-stamped, serialized and rated in 9 separate areas for firmness before it becomes a LATEXPEDIC layer.
Certified Organic
"Organic" on a label means nothing unless someone checks. Certified Organic latex is audited from the plantation to the finished foam, and only then can it carry the GOLS label.
The Ticking
You will spend about a third of your life with your face, your skin and your breath inches from your mattress. That is why the ticking, the fabric cover that wraps the latex, should be made of natural cotton and wool. Cotton is soft and breathable against the skin. Wool regulates temperature and wicks moisture, so you stay warm in winter and cool in summer. Every LATEXPEDIC cover is hand quilted with cotton and wool, one at a time, on both sides.

LATEXPEDIC is a division of Electropedic Beds, started in 1964 by Henry Kraus with his sons Lloyd and Philip. The third generation, Zachary, Paul, Ryan and Sasha, works alongside them today. Each organic latex core is made one at a time, each mattress is hand quilted one at a time, and our own trucks deliver and set up everywhere in California, Nevada and Arizona, and gladly take away your old mattress.

A LATEXPEDIC natural mattress is made of three materials only: natural latex, cotton and wool. The latex begins as sap tapped from the Hevea brasiliensis rubber tree and is foamed into Natural Talalay or Certified Organic latex, wrapped in ticking of natural cotton and wool.
LATEXPEDIC builds what we believe is America's best-built natural and organic mattress: latex from top to bottom (Natural Talalay or Certified Organic), natural cotton and wool ticking, completely reversible, quilted on both sides, with handles and zippers and a 20-Year Limited Warranty with no indentation clause. We are a third-generation, family-owned, factory-direct company making mattresses since 1964.
Certified Organic latex comes from rubber trees grown on certified organic plantations without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. To carry the GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) label, a product must contain a minimum of 95% certified organic latex, and the whole chain from plantation to factory is inspected by an independent certifier. Organic cotton is certified to GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Most mattress brands contain zero percent natural materials: polyester ticking, polyurethane foam and other synthetic materials. LATEXPEDIC believes a mattress should be made of natural latex, cotton and wool, because it is your sleeping environment for one third of your life.
